Birgitte Riis Art Consulting is an art-consulting company with expertise in contemporary art. Our clients include corporate as well as private collectors who want to build reputable and unique collections. Our position in the market is neutral and independent; we work in the interest of our clients providing neutral and objective advice based on the interest of each client’s personal taste and objectives.
Many people buy art the same way they buy furniture. But this way art is reduced to being interior decoration; it is intended to match the sofa and it will be renewed whenever the home or office needs redecoration. But art is so much more than that. Good art is not just a fashion item or a decoration; it has a long lasting aesthetic quality that continues to draw attention and give new experiences. Good art is not definable. Not two good art collections are the same, since not two collectors have the same taste in art. Having said that, however, there are criteria for good art that professionals agree upon and that are worth considering when buying art. Birgitte Riis Art Consulting extends our clients´ knowledge and puts them in a strong position when purchasing art. It is our aim to help create interesting art collections of fine quality. Together with our clients we develop a specific line in the collection, based upon the clients´ taste and ideas together with our knowledge of art and insight in the art market. We have strong connections to the market but have no direct ties to any artist or gallery, therefore, our advice is objective. We work closely together with our clients, private or corporate.
Birgitte Riis Art Consulting offers counsel and advice regarding art purchasing. Our focus is on Danish and international contemporary art. Our advice covers traditional art media such as painting, sculpture and photography but also concerns more experimental media like installation and video art. Besides offering counselling and advice about purchasing art we can bring new life to our clients´ existing collections. We offer registration, sale and new approaches as to where to hang specific art works. Our point of departure is always the existing art works when we plan the future collection. For corporate clients we arrange various art events. We can arrange talks or after hour lectures ourselves or we can plan events with artists, galleries or other representatives from our network.
Those who are interested in buying art are of course interested in buying good art. But what is good art? How do you get access to it? And what is the right price? Rightly, many people are insecure about art, the art market and on how to navigate it. To gain a general understanding of the art market is time-consuming, as the amount of art works and of gallery shows, art fairs, museum exhibitions and biennales is more extensive than ever before. At Birgitte Riis Art Consulting we cover the market and attend important art events at home and abroad. Together with our clients we find the best works of art which besides matching the client’s personal taste also can be counted a good and sound investment. In the art market price and quality do often but not always correspond. Some artists are hyped in the marked and hold strong prices that do not necessarily reflect the quality of their work, while others make high quality pieces of art at lower prices because they are not yet discovered by the market. At Birgitte Riis Art Consulting we evaluate the quality of each artist and of each artwork and we are not afraid to have an opinion that goes against the grain. Investing in art enriches your life and provides many rewards, which is why we always recommend our clients to buy with their hearts. Art is, however, also an economic investment. At Birgitte Riis Art Consulting we are not only focused on the established artists we also have an opinion about who will be tomorrows´ hot item. Birgitte Riis Art Consulting is a private consultancy serving private and corporate clients building interesting art collections. The firm is founded by Birgitte Riis who has a BA in Art History from Copenhagen University. Her expertise lies in contemporary art and she has followed the Danish and international contemporary art scene for years.
